Spring cleaning isn’t just for throwing away expired coupons or taking off your couch cushions and finding other treasures you thought were forever lost. Your car deserves some spring cleaning too! Cleaning your car thoroughly inside and out will prepare you for all your outdoor adventures and make you feel good about yourself as you drive down the streets of Cincinnati.
Spring cleaning your car is more than throwing away Starbuck straw wrappers and finding a few dollars in loose change. You should clean the outside, inside, and take your car in for a tune-up too. They say April showers bring May flowers, so make sure to change your windshield wipers. They most likely have suffered from our cold, harsh winter and will need to be replaced.
Start with the outside of your car, give it a nice soapy rub down from the top and down to the tires. A firm brush works best for the tires, don’t be afraid to really get in there. Make sure to have two buckets, one for clean soapy water and another for rinsing off the dirty brush. Once you have rinsed all the soap and dirt off your car, wipe it clean with a microfiber towel. Microfiber towels help reduce swirl marks and streaks.
Once you have made the exterior look great then move on to the interior of your car. The interior has also undergone a harsh winter with road salt, dirt, and a spill or two. Get a garbage bag (and maybe one for recyclables too!) and start throwing away all the receipts, wrappers, and other various trash that has accumulated throughout the winter months. Don’t forget to look under the seat and find what's hiding under there. Then wipe down everything down to the point where it sparkles. Make sure to get all the dust that has piled up on your dashboard too. You want to clean both the outside and the inside of your windows. Glass cleaner and a microfiber towel do a great job, do the same with your mirrors.
Now it’s time for the floors. Take out all the mats in your car so you can get a thorough vacuuming in throughout. You will want to spray down and clean your car mats with soap to break down all the build-up of mud and dirt. It’s also great to vacuum your seats if you have cloth seats, don’t be afraid to get in those cracks. A warm damp towel works great for rubbing down your car seats, if you have stains use a quality upholstery cleaner. If you get anything wet or damp in your car make sure to let it air out and dry completely, you don’t want any mold to grow.
After your car is cleaned and looking brand new you can reorganize it, but try to keep is as neat as possible. After all, you did just put in a lot of hard work and time making it look good. Spring cleaning your car is de-winterizing your car and preparing it for warm weather adventures. Make sure to stop by Avid Autowerx to get your car serviced after!
