Getting Your Vehicle Ready For Winter

With winter just around the corner, one thing we may forget and take for granted is getting our vehicle prepared for the weather conditions. Our vehicles, like ourselves, have to get ready for and adapt to the weather changes and we need to ensure that they are working at their optimal so they can keep us safe and on the road without a glitch.

So, the question is, how to get your vehicle ready or be prepared well ahead of winter. Here are some ways you can get your vehicle ready for winter. Tires always seem to be at the top of the list of priorities when it comes to safety and your vehicle in any weather, especially in summer and winter due to the extremes in temperatures.

The first thing to check is that your tires aren’t worn, if they are, they’re not going to help you when the roads are slippery or covered in slush or snow, so don’t risk going into winter with old worn-out tires.

Consider purchasing a set of winter tires, even if you don’t need new tires, swapping your all-season tires for winter ones will ensure your safety and smooth driving in the scary winter conditions, and will preserve your all-season tires for when the weather starts warming back up! If your tires are fine, then a very simple yet very overlooked check is your tire pressure, make sure they are properly inflated.

Now that your tires are done, next on the list are your brakes which are just as important as your tires are, and during the winter, your brakes work overtime due to the slower moving traffic conditions. Getting your brakes checked before the worst of the winter weather sets in is very wise, if not, mandatory.

Something that many of us may take for granted is our trusty windshield wiper blades! Visibility is already compromised during winter, but without proper working blades, your anxiety levels may just peak! The amount of work those little rubber arms do, especially during winter are phenomenal, so, it’s a very quick and easy check to save you the stress during a downpour.

Another overlooked, yet very important item that needs to be checked before winter is your vehicle’s coolant/antifreeze system. Believe it or not, just checking that your coolant levels are safe might not cut it because coolant/antifreeze contains other fluids that can, over time, stop working at their optimum levels to keep the water in your vehicle’s radiator from freezing or corroding.
